HandBrake is a great free application that you can use to convert DVDs to MPEG-4 videos. Some of it's really stand out features are the ability to adjust video output size and complete control over video output bit rates, containers etc. Handbrake is perfect for putting that DVD video you own on your iPod or any other MPEG-4 video capable device to watch anywhere.
