Have you ever had a Microsoft Word or Excel document emailed to you
that you couldn't open? I don't mean a random document or spam but one
you were expecting from a known person. It is frustrating, especially
if you’re on a deadline, but there is a quick fix.
One example is, if a person creates a document with Microsoft Word,
PowerPoint or an Excel spreadsheet on a Mac the end tag, .doc, .ppt or
.xls is not always visible. If this document is then emailed the end
tag is not included with the name. When opening this document on a
Windows computer, utilizing Microsoft Office versions 2000 - 2003, the
tag is required.

Search engines are our main tools for finding specific information on the web. Without search engines we would have to know the URL to all websites we want to visit. This would make things like researching and discovering new content nearly impossible.
Even though we use the term “search engine” to mean all websites that provide web searching capabilities, in actuality there are four types of search engines. There are those that use robots (crawlers or spiders) such as Google, those that use directories such as OpenDirectory, those that are a hybrid between robots and directories such as Yahoo, and those that use pay per click. In all types we are really searching an index of websites that the search engine contains. How these indexes are created is what makes them different.

Building a website has many steps and one of the first things your site will need is a
space online where the site will reside. ISP stands for Internet
Service Provider. An ISP provides Internet access for people through
dial-up, broadband and/or DSL. People purchase this service so that
their computer can access the Internet. Most ISPs do have space for
users to host a page or a small website, frequently it is included in
your monthly fee. One of the cons for putting your website on an ISP is
you most likely will not have your own domain name such as
www.yoursitename.com. These free website spaces are normally for
individuals and not intended for businesses. So for a small personal
site an ISP is just fine.

A really great thing to have when you are working on a PHP website or
CMS is a virtual server environment to do all your testing in. Some
really good ones are MAMP (Mac), WAMP (Win) and LAMP (Linex, Apache,
MySQL, PHP). Enjoy!
