Handy Measuring Tool for Web Design |

Quite often, while designing a website, button or graphic I need to know the size of an existing graphic or width of a particular space. The Firefox add-on, MeasureIt, is a very handy tool for determining the size in pixels.
First you'll need to download the add-on tool from: Add-ons for Firefox
By clicking on the measuring tape button, located on the status bar or toolbar, a measuring tape tool appears, allowing you to click and drag a ruler box around a graphic, space or any element on a webpage. The ruler box shows the width and height in pixels.
To nudge the ruler box hold the CTRL + Arrow Keys to nudge the ruler by one pixel. CTRL + Shift + Arrow Keys will nudge the ruler by 5 pixels. To move the ruler box just click, hold and drag. |

 I am happy to announce the release of Focus our most advanced template series yet. This new template series features all the usual Purple Iris refinements with a very helpful new addition namely a field based color picker. The new field based color picker replaces the old external color picker and makes it much easier to work with template colors by providing a quick and intuitive tool that pops up when you click on a color based field. Additionally the new color picker makes it easy to coordinate your sites colors by providing a visual representation of the various colors you have picked through field background coloring.

Note: The Focus Template Series was online in a 1.0.1 version lacking the new features outlined above, for about two days, prior to this post, and has been updated to version 1.0.3 along with an upgrade to the pidp_styles_library plugin to version 2.0.4. Both updated extensions, template and plugin, are required to use the new color picker system which means make sure you update both your pidp_styles_library plugin and your focus template together or the new features won't work. |

We've spent the last six weeks developing a new module to better handle menus for Purple Iris Design's templates. The Iris Menu Module is finally here and includes some great features. The development of this menu module delayed publishing the February template, Simply Aluminum as we wanted to include the newest feature. March's template, Inspirations will be out very soon. All of the templates on the site have also been updated to take advantage of our new Iris Menu Module.
The Iris Menu Module provides many menu customization parameters and is designed as a feature rich
replacement for the default Joomla menu module and provides four different animated menu styles.

The PIDP Styles Library is continually growing. Currently there are 23 different module styles that can be used in any of our templates. Mix and match them to make your own custom look. New module styles are added to the library quite often so that you can easily change the look of your website very quickly, whenever needed.
Additional styles are added from time to time for further customization. Future styles include holidays, seasons, paper and special corners. Actually the sky's the limit.
To add new styles to your template you can purchase a new PIDP Styles Library Plugin, for a very reasonable price, in our shop. |

We've included 175 bullets in the templates so that you can better customize your content. The bullets are automatically added to the website's editor when you install a Purple Iris Design template. It's as easy as typing your article, selecting the items included in the bulleted list, click the unordered list button then choose the bullet you wish to use.
